Sales attribution shows you which purchases came from your TxtCart's Cart Recovery automation. This guide explains how we track sales and how you can adjust these settings to match your business needs.
How We Track Sales from Your SMS Campaigns
TxtCart monitors three different ways customers can interact with your messages before buying:
1. Message View Attribution Window (Adjustable: 1-7 days)
We give credit to SMS when someone buys after getting cart recovery message, even if they don't click anything.
How to adjust this:
Go to Settings > Messaging Tab
Choose anywhere from 1 to 7 days (we start you at 7 days)
Pick what makes sense for your customers' buying habits
Real example: Set it to 4 days, and we'll count any purchase made within 4 days of receiving SMS—no click required.
2. Link Clicked (Fixed: 7 days)
When someone taps a link in your SMS and buys something, we track that sale.
What you need to know:
This window is locked at 7 days
We automatically monitor every click
You can't change this timeframe
Real example: Someone clicks your SMS link on Monday and completes their purchase on Saturday—that sale counts.
3. Discount Code Used (Fixed: 7 days)
If a customer applies a discount code from your SMS at checkout, we attribute that sale to your campaign.
What you need to know:
This window is locked at 7 days
Works even if they never clicked your SMS link
You can't change this timeframe
Real example: A customer screenshots the discount code, and they use it 5 days later—we'll count that purchase.
Common Questions About Attribution
How does sales attribution actually work?
Think of attribution as connecting the dots between your SMS messages and actual purchases. When someone buys from your store after abandoning their cart, we check: Did they recently get an SMS from us? Did they click it? Did they use a code we sent? If yes to any of these, we credit that sale to your TxtCart campaigns.
What actions trigger attribution?
We track three customer behaviors:
Link clicks: Customer taps your SMS link and purchases within 7 days
Message views: Customer receives your SMS and buys within 1-7 days (based on your settings)
Code redemption: Customer uses your discount code within 7 days of receiving it
Can I change these tracking windows?
Here's what you control:
Message views: Yes! Adjust between 1-7 days in your settings
Link clicks: No, stays at 7 days
Discount codes: No, stays at 7 days
We keep click and discount code windows consistent so you get reliable, comparable data over time.
What are the standard settings?
Every TxtCart account starts with:
SMS Tracking Windows
Messages received: 7 days
Links clicked: 7 days
Codes used: 7 days
Check your current setup anytime in Settings > Messaging Tab.
What if someone interacts with multiple messages?
If a customer clicks multiple SMS links before buying, we credit the most recent click (within the 7-day window). No clicks? We'll credit the most recent message they received (if it's within your view window). Used a discount code? That always gets credit as long as it's within 7 days.
Can you track purchases across different devices?
Absolutely. We know customers switch between phones, tablets, and computers. We connect the dots when:
They enter their phone number at checkout
They use a discount code we texted them
They click an SMS link that helps us recognize them on a new device
This means if someone reads your SMS on their phone during lunch and buys on their work laptop later, we still track that sale.
Which sales count toward my Cart Recovery stats?
Any purchase that matches our attribution rules goes into your Cart Recovery performance:
Bought after clicking a cart recovery SMS
Bought after receiving a cart recovery SMS (within your view window)
Bought using a discount code from a cart recovery SMS
How fast does the data update?
Sales attribution updates in real-time as purchases roll in.
