At TxtCart, we believe in complete transparency in our pricing structure, so we want to be very clear about how Carrier Fees affect your billing and how they are passed through to you.
What Are Carrier Fees?
Carrier fees are small additional surcharges that mobile carriers (such as AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.) apply to outbound (and sometimes inbound) messages after a message is sent.
These fees cover the infrastructure costs associated with sending text messages across multiple cellular networks. When a message is sent or received, it goes through multiple carrier networks until it reaches the recipient's network. This process generates charges from each carrier it passes through, and these charges are ultimately passed down to you.
How Are Carrier Fees Calculated?
Carrier fees are set and calculated by the carrier directly (not TxtCart). After receiving them, we pass them down to you, but it's important to note that we do not profit from these charges. We merely pass them through.
*Carrier fees are charged per segment. Learn more about character limits and message segments here. Carrier fees may change from time to time without notice.
Why Aren't Carrier Fees Included in the Pricing?
Since Carrier Fees are costs that are calculated by the carrier depending on a multitude of variables, it's very hard to estimate what the final cost of those carrier charges will be until the charge is passed down to us, usually around 24 hours after a message is sent.
To keep things transparent, we add these fees to your Account Details >> Billing section as soon as we receive them, where you can review these charges.
Important Note: Carrier Fees apply to all SMS platforms operating in the US and Canada, and they are standard across the industry and all providers.
How Much Do Carriers Charge?
Carrier fees are calculated based on many different factors, such as how many carriers are involved in the delivery of a message, the type of message (SMS or MMS), whether it's an outbound or inbound message, the number type, etc.
The rates below are the current carrier fees:
1. United States (Toll-Free Number)
Carrier | SMS | MMS | Incoming SMS | Incoming MMS |
Verizon | $0.0040 | $0.0065 | N/A | N/A |
AT&T | $0.0030 | $0.0075 | $0.0030 | $0.0075 |
T-Mobile | $0.0045 | $0.0100 | $0.0025 | $0.0100 |
US Cellular | $0.0035 | $0.0100 | $0.0025 | $0.0100 |
Note: T-Mobile applies charges for incoming messages. These inbound rates match their outbound pricing shown in the table above (specifically, $0.0025 per SMS and $0.010 per MMS). AT&T similarly bills for inbound messages on toll-free numbers and 10-digit long codes at $0.003.
1. Canada (Toll-Free Number)
