What is A/B Testing?

A/B Testing lets you send different versions of a message to your subscribers to see which one performs better.

Instead of guessing which message works best, you can test and find out with real data!

Why Use A/B Tests?

A/B Testing helps you:

1. Find the best-performing message

  • Discover which message copy gets more clicks and conversions

2. Optimize conversion rates

  • Improve your results by using what actually works

3. Test different approaches

  • Try different discount amounts, message styles, or call-to-actions

  • See what your customers respond to best

4. Make data-driven decisions

  • Stop guessing and start knowing what works

What Can You Test?

You can test different versions of:

  • Message copy – Try different wording or tone

  • Discount amounts – Test 10% off vs. 15% off vs. $5 off

  • Call-to-actions – Try different ways to encourage action

  • Message length – Test short vs. detailed messages

How to Set Up an A/B Test

Step 1: Open your Flow Builder

Step 2: In the left sidebar under RULES, find the A/B Test option

Step 3: Drag and drop it into your Flow or hit (+) sign to add A/B Test to your Flow

Step 4: Set up your variations:

  • You can create up to 6 different versions to test

  • Split traffic evenly OR customize the percentage for each version

Step 5: Create different message paths for each variation

Step 6: Save your Flow and turn it on

How It Works

When subscribers enter your Flow:

  1. TxtCart automatically splits them between your test variations

  2. Each subscriber gets one version of your message

  3. You can split evenly (50/50 for 2 versions) or set custom percentages

  4. TxtCart tracks performance for each version

Best Practices:

Test one thing at a time: Only change one element (like discount amount) so you know what made the difference

Let tests run long enough: Give your test time to collect enough data (at least a few days)

Test with meaningful differences: Make variations different enough that customers will notice

Start with 2 variations: Don't overcomplicate, begin with A vs. B before trying more versions

Important Notes:

  • You can create up to 6 variations in a single test

  • Each subscriber only sees one version (they won't get multiple test messages)

  • Make sure you have enough subscribers for meaningful results

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where can I see results/performance of my A/B test?

You can see the performance directly in the nodes within each A/B test variation.

Each path in your test shows how many subscribers went through it and how they performed. This helps you compare results between your different versions.

2. How long does the test run?

A/B Test nodes run indefinitely, they don't automatically stop.

Your test will keep running and splitting subscribers between variations as long as your Flow is active. You decide when to end the test based on your results.

3. Does it automatically pick a winner?

No, regular A/B Test nodes do not automatically pick a winner.

You need to review the performance of each variation and manually decide which one works best. Once you've chosen a winner, you can update your Flow to use only that version.
